Boathouse Mural, "The Echo Park Project" – outreach and exchange program sponsored by a grant from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, working with graffitti artists and L.A. Museums

 

Visual expression, like the spoken word, is an elusive thing. So it has been with Barbara Benish, Willie Gomez, Michael Blasi and other Echo Park artists. Barbara, and the other artists recognized in each other a shared goal-the need to build community through their painting. Tentatively, with respect and trust, they have met on common ground to exchange ideas and created, perhaps, a new visual language that everyone can understand.
