Šum Šum
Painting/ Drawing
1994

The series -Šum Šum, Čary pro Potešeni- can roughly translate as Shoom Shoom, Lines of Pleasure. First exhibited at Klenova Castle in the Southwest Bohemian region of Sumava, the work celebrated my move to a new land, entering a new love relationship, and referencing the lines of traditional witches, the female herbalists, who made čary mary, magic drawings, on the earth. The paintings are actually collages, of xeroxed linoleum prints from the Apocalypse series, then pasted and painted onto canvas. The šum, in the word for our region, šumava, is an etomopoetic representation of the sound the breeze makes as it passes through the forest.
